Busy Monday
Today:
- Joe has been to Start Right (tick socialisation, early years stuff, dance, drama and music for him), then had a friend round to play (tick more socialisation, PE in the form of bike riding and running around) and has now given up and is watching a video (tick resting!).
- Abbie has been to Sainsbury’s (tick real life experience, maths, reading), made and decorated a little gift box – using Alison’s link so thanks for that one (tick art and craft), had friends round to play (tick socialisation), helped with some bulb-planting as our next door neighbour gave us some crocus and bluebell bulbs this morning (tick gardening/science) and is now watching the same video (tick resting!).
- Anna also came to Sainsbury’s and did the box thing (tick the same things as Abbie) then went to school for the afternoon (tick socialisation, music, dance and drama), and is also watching the video (tick resting!).
Our time in the supermarket was very amusing (for me!), I’d given the girls recipes for chocolate truffles and they went off with a trolley of their own to find all the ingredients. I caught them at one point and reminded them to look at the quantities they needed (and not to pay until I’d checked what they’d got!!), so they had to go back and do most of it again (how mean am I?!) but they pretty much managed on their own, and paid for it together, although I did have to sort out the maths when we got home because they’d been hurried through the checkout and not had time to work out what half of the bill was! Anyway, we now have all the ingredients necessary for mass sweet making, and we’re going to make a start this evening because we’re hoping to go and see one set of great-grandparents tomorrow.
So, having done my shop, helped with the gift boxes, done all the school runs, fed the children, and entertained little friends and little friends’ Mum (which was lovely), I’ve been really busy, and I don’t get to rest, unless you count blogging – which I do, I suppose
Going to try and cook something impressive (using that new springform tin!) this evening so this is a quick blog before I go and get started, hopefully I’ll be able to concentrate while their video is still on!

I’m doubly worn out now, having done a mammmoth cooking stint – Nigella pizza rustica followed by truffles recipe #1 which will not be repeated, we’ll try recipe #2 next time, it was so crumbly and I got *so* stressed! Still, we have a reasonable set of sweets to give the grandparents tomorrow so that’s what counts. Bath and bed for me, don’t care what the kids do now!

I heard Nigella on the radio today and got an overwhelming urge to cook.
You did have a busy day – well done!

I’ve always fancied cooking her pizza rustica. Was it as faffy as it looks?
Sounds like a good day!

I don’t think any of us get to rest do they? Up and out by 0800 today (girls to breakfast club – is that herectical to write on this site?). They did school all day – numeracy, socialising, French club, literacy etc. I meanwhile dealt with 200 e-mails at work. I think we all live busy lives whatever we’re up to. Roll on Christmas when I stop for a day or two……………!

Well, I can dream about resting! Pizza Rustica was very nice, to be fair, but yes, it was faffy. I’ve made pastry about twice in my life before so that was the major downside … and as I was getting very stressed out, rolling it out for the third time, Abigail said to me ‘well, practise makes perfect, mum’ (wonder where she’d heard that before?!) so I guess I will make it again sometime, it went down very well all round, in fact we pigged out and ate the whole thing between us!

Good read, I can’t say I agree with everything you say though.
