There could be trouble ahead

One of my children is going to end up getting throttled this morning. Vote for which one if you like.

    Choices are:

  • The one who has been asked to do some cello practice for the first time in weeks, and clearly it was a bad move not to ask her to practice for a while because her fingers don’t know what to do and she’d rather cry buckets and curl up in a ball. I wouldn’t mind if she couldn’t play it, I wouldn’t mind if she made the most terrible noise in the whole world (on the cello) if she would only apply herself to working at it rather than giving up at the first hurdle and dissolving into tears saying it’s all too hard.
  • The one who is still not dressed despite my having asked every twenty minutes since about 8.30am. She’s also been asked to tidy her room and has not made the slightest effort towards it.
  • The third one, who is doing his best to sabotage any efforts of the older two by interrupting them every ten minutes. To be fair, he has got dressed all by himself this morning, read his Start Right books to me, and done some worksheets from Start Right too. His distraction techniques are probably less his own fault and more because he hasn’t got anything better to do.

And before you wonder what I’m doing on the computer, I’m just trying not to scream at either girl, Anna especially. Sometimes I think a bit of routine every day is what we need so that when I do try and ask for music practice (for example) it’s not the end of the world. Then again I’d hate to have to go through this torture every day. I have been nice, but I am rapidly running out of patience. I remember hating piano practice as a kid but I can’t ever remember making so much of a song and dance routine out of it as Anna is doing this morning, it is quite incredible to watch. Better go, I suppose …

    Hugs.

We’ve got pattern blocks and cuisenaire rods out – can’t believe both my children are doing maths in their pjs but there you go.

ARGH. Total sympathy of that one. Hannah’s reaction to everything that doesn’t fall into her lap is floods of tears, and a wail of “it’s too hard”. i don’t know where she learned it even – I can’t even blame school.

Mmmmm… Fran and i almost came to blows today. I actually threatened school. So much sympathy!
