Stuff we have done today:
Josiah: Start Right, followed by lunch, gamecube, running around in the park, zoombinis.
Abbie: Exeter maths, some handwriting, reading (The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl), Noughts and Crosses against me (for what felt like hours), gamecube, playing in the park with friends, and some zoombinis too I think. She’s been pestering me to play a fractions pizza game too, which is another really boring one, but I think I’m going to cave in if she reappears in her pyjamas in a minute.
Anna: Exeter maths, handwriting (she chose to write out the prayer of Jabez having read the book last night – strange reading choice for an 8 year old, I thought, but there we go), cello practise, then school for dance and drama, followed by playing in the park.
Me: folded about five loads of washing, helped the girls, did all the running around, popped to Sainsbury’s with Abbie in the middle of it all for a pair of jeans for her, she’s gone through the knees of two pairs of trousers recently, erm, chatted at the park with other local home ed friends (including a very animated conversation over when children were ready for things like fractions and joined up writing!).
Steve: bugger all. Some banking and played drums for a while. He did go to work but it seems he didn’t do much more than drive a few cars around, by his own admission, I hasten to add!
We all ended up at home from about half past four onwards, and we’re part way through watching a channel 4 documentary on Henry VIII and his wives, which the girls and I are finding really interesting. Joe and Steve were both falling asleep in front of it before tea
We’re planning another instalment after bathtime.
Steve and I are sitting here trying out some different radio stations (his dream come true, I’m sitting next to him while he listens to his beloved stereo, *and* I’m blogging!) – currently listening to PlanetRock, which is classic rock (Nirvana, early U2, 70s/80s stuff) … he’s enjoying it
. Tomorrow I’ll put the radio back to R2

Argh! Not the Auntie Pizza fraction game?? I hate it, and Hannah loves it. We were playing it today as well, funnily enough, and with the fraction rod things I got from FF. Maybe they could play it together at HESFES, and leave me out of it. Our tickets have arrived

You’re still alive then, Joyce?!! Glad to hear it
don’t think it’s Auntie Pizza but obviously something similar. I’ve ordered some of those fraction rod things too. Anything else you want from FF?! I’m a glutton for punishment there …

I’ve posted my HESFES form. I’m not big on radio stations but i have got a new cd in the car (new to me anyway) Keane – i like it.
We’ll have to swap Henry notes soon i think… Fran has been making noises about him AGAIN

Hi there Sarah
Have enjoyed reading your blogg recently and I’ve just worked out tonight that I can communicate with you via it….aren’t I clever!!!
Are you up for the KBCTC graduation this weekend? I’ll be there with the kids….it’d be great to catch up with you if you are.
Anyway, I’ll be in touch….not very quick at this typing thing!
love
Janet

Aha, another secret reader comes out of the closet! Hi Janet
No, we’re not doing anything KBCTC related this year – will be at euronet though. I have suggested we have a home educators’ get together there, hopefully AO’C will be taking me up on the suggestion! Look forward to seeing you soon – and yes, keep up the communication! xx.

Oh, are the educational catalogues out then? The one you sent was so slow to load, it wasn’t really usable, but there’s bound to be something I *need*. I’ve just been feeling a bit sad with the hospital stuff, but everything OK, and crawling back out of hibernation till the next time.

Sympathise about the noughts and crosses- we’ve had phases of that game here along with eye spy and I’m always very releived when it runs it’s course!
What fraction pizza game would that be then?
Heather.

Yep, educational catalogue is out but not online until the beginning of April, I don’t think. I’ll pop one in the post if you like – or better still, you could register your HE group through me and then if anyone from the group orders you’ll earn points as if it were a party, iyswim …

Heather, I’d stick to real pizzas, much less annoying than a poxy game. Can’t remember what ours is called now, but it’s a cheap cardboard one and the pieces sometimes overlap one another so I wouldn’t recommend it in any case. Better than pizza, anyway, chocolate bars divided into six/eight chunks are quite good for learning fractions, I’ve found
Formative fun are doing a pizza game, plus ‘fraction lab’, plus another nice equivalence game called ‘What’s the point’. Can let you have a catalogue when I see you

That’s the DVD we have on in the car atm! My kids are hooked and I am picking up loads just listening to it. I found myself telling someone ALL about Catherine of Aragon the other day- they just looked bemused LOL!
Can you send me a catalogue please! I’ll email you our group details.
Radio 2 girl here! I asked for the bit to make the laptop useable everywhere tonight LOL!

lol @ Ros
So when *are* children ready for fractions and joined-up writing?
March 7th, 2005 at 22:41
Yes please to the catalogue. Our group doesn’t have a name, but it does seem to have a registered address in my front room
You could call it the South West (name of country where I live), home education group though if that helps.
