You’re a late night conversation

March 25th, 2005 by Sarah

Feels very late, here ;) We just had a lovely evening – yummy food, wine, friends, and games. We had a couple of Easter themed games – that one where you have a label stuck to your back saying who you are, and you have to ask questions to find out who you are – we did that with the main characters from the biblical story. It was interesting, and through playing that together we managed to get through most of the story – and I read the story to the children this afternoon as we were planning which ‘characters’ we would use for the game. Abbie and Steve made a ‘pin the Jesus on the cross’ game, too. Sounds tacky and irreverant but it actually ended up being quite thought-provoking. We shared bread and wine as part of our meal, and then the rest of the games were the more standard ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’ and Pictionary. Spent most of the day in preparation of one sort or another, from making named Easter bunny napkin holders (from the Usborne Easter Activities book), to making the obligatory chocolate shredded wheat nests with mini-eggs in them. I cooked for most of the afternoon – the chocolate cake with warm chocolate chilli sauce went down well!

More tomorrow … hope busy is good, because tomorrow will be busy too, errands to run, washing to do, stuff to pack before camping on Sunday, plus friends are coming to see us en route to picking up a rather large ebay purchase from nearby – an unexpected but welcome extra to our Easter weekend! Later in the evening we seem to have more friends arriving to watch Doctor Who on the big screen – looking forward to that as well.

Got to admit, I’m wondering how “pin Jesus on the cross” can be anything other than tacky….and I’m not particularly reverent at the best of times!

Glad you had a good day though.

Aargh, I didn’t post that twice! Mutter, grumble…

rofl. Okay I admit, it was mainly tacky ;) :D If I were feeling reverent maybe I’d have left out the Jesus and just done some nails, like these people – that was obviously the serious version. I don’t mind which, it’s the thought provokingness that matters to me.

Hello… Yes, it was all yummy!! It was so lovely; thanks for asking us. One of the biggest things I’ve missed about not going to “church” (you know what I mean) is not spending time with families/people of all ages. It was a real treat. You’d all worked really hard and it was appreciated!! Have a fabby rest-of-Easter weekend.

So did you enjoy Dr Who? we ended up watching it by default and really enjoyed it. Glad to see it was as rubbish and daft as originally it was. Pea is hooked so this looks like a regular Saturday night slot here LOL!

I rather enjoyed it – wasn’t going to watch it, but Small wanted his milk early so I got pinned to the couch at 7 rather than 7.30. No way I would let Big watch it though, I can see her being unable to walk through shopping centres!

  8. Chris Says:

We’re gonna watch it tomorrow. M5 is shut in both directions at J21 – J19 apparently…..

loved it here too. i was debating letting D stay up to watch as a regular sat night treat but he fell into pox induced sleep early and was probably for the best – way too scary for him.

excellent though, and inspired casting :-)

  10. Roslyn Says:

Buzz didn’t watch it as he had a guest and they were competeing for the trash the house award ;-) . I spent most of it explaining it to the girls as I hadn’t done any pre watching explanation.

  11. Sarah Says:

ew, bad news about the M5 … hope A is home by now …

  12. Ruth Says:

Was Alison at your place today Sarah? I I saw her leave your road about 1445 today. Was I right?!!

  13. Alison Says:

Yes, that was me Ruth :) Had dumped the big girls and was on my way down to Paignton.

By the time I’d crawled up to Jn 21 (hit the jam somewhere between 22 and 21 – usually I tend to sit in whichever lane I’m in, but this time I did change into one that was actually moving, thank goodness, wouldn’t be home yet otherwise), they’d opened it again, and the rest of the journey was ok but long – 4 hours in total! And then I somehow drove into the neighbours’ wall. &^%&^%(&%*%^(*&£”*(£$)(“£*”£)(“££”(*”£)(“*)”$*(%&%£&^%&£

(Joyce, that’s not one really long swear word, that’s many strung together.)

  14. Sarah Says:

Oh no! 4 hours :( The wall :( Did you damage the van badly (never mind the wall)? All that for a bed, hope they decide to sleep in it after all …

You left your bracelet beads and those DMs here – will look after them until next time. Both girls tried on trousers and were really happy with one pair each so thank you. And it was just nice to see you :)

As an agnostic, I personally don’t see the problem with “pin jesus on the cross”, but …

Recently, we ran into a christian day care worker who was almost fired for letting her kids play that game. She meant well, but according to her it freaked out the kids and the teachers at her preschool. So I asked a few others that are very into their religion what they thought, and to a person, I was told that “pin jesus on the cross” was at best distasteful, and worse heresy. You’re the first person I’ve heard who’s embraced the idea, on one hand, I agree with you, on the other hand, I’m finding that we’re in the minority camp on this issue.
