I’ve been good most of the time

March 30th, 2005 by Sarah

Just can’t have a productive day without blogging it ;)

Have done lots today – mainly gardening – Abbie and I went off to B&Q this morning to pick up supplies (like a garden fork, lol, we didn’t have much garden in the last house!) because I decided today was the day for clearing the border which I’ve had my eye on for a veggie patch. It is the only border in our garden which gets any sun at all, so despite the fact that it had some nice enough shrubs in it, they had to go. Hopefully I will be able to get it properly weed free before planting anything out.

The other thing we picked up was one of these and some seed trays so that we could get started on our seeds from Kris, and Abbie planted out some seeds – tomatoes, beans, peas, and some sweetcorn that she chose in B&Q as well. We’ve saved some to start off later as well, just in case ;) I’m not known for my gardening success!

Still, I was pleased with myself today, can’t wait to actually plant stuff out … and the patch isn’t too big for me, I should be able to stay on top of it.

Joe helped with some of the digging, too, and Anna was playing with Mollie and then with another friend/neighbour who came round for the afternoon.

The other thing that’s been ongoing throughout the day is the construction of a ‘ship in a bottle’ that Josiah was given for Easter, and has been desperate to do ever since. It was way too fiddly for him, but each time I did a bit he joined in and helped, and is very pleased with the finished result.

Also made dinner which we’re about to take over to friends’ for a bring and share potluck type thing. Oh, and my sister has fixed the date of November 5th for her wedding, which I think is a pretty cool date to choose.

Josie thinks its an excellent day to choose… she waited a whole two weeks for it!

Wanted to garden today but too cold and too sick….

  2. Roslyn Says:

Yes it would be a waste not to blog that day :-) .

Me and veggie growing are not the best of friends but yet again we are trying LOL!

Cool wedding date as they can have fireworks without anmy hastle. We wanted them but getting married in May didn’t go down well with the powers that be and as our reception was in the Town Hall we couldn’t just sneekily do it :-)

  3. Ruth Says:

Let us know how you get on with your sweetcorn. It tends not to flower and/or produce a crop of any description.

  4. Sarah Says:

Grin, I thought of Josie the minute she suggested that date – even before I thought about fireworks ;)

I didn’t get anywhere much with my sweetcorn last year – but I think I planted it too late. Haven’t got very far with preparing the garden yet.

Darn, don’t think my e-mails are going out Sarah. (excuse us everyone). I’ll get back to my bro and see what dates he wants it in the summer; but I’ll tell him when Merry is intending to come down. We’ll be able to sort something out. I’ll get back to you, thanks.x

  7. Gill Says:

Ooooh, lovely neat border! No weeds! How do you do that, then? ;)

  8. Merry Says:

Ruth, quite happyu to be flexible – if he wants to come the week sarah is away, i’ll move tio her house!

  9. Chris Says:

I thought Alison was after Sarah’s house *that* week ;-)

  10. Sarah Says:

She was, but don’t think Merry knew that? Anyway, our house is probably big enough to share …

Hello Sarah, goodluck with the sweetcorn as it’s rather fussy. I’m planning gardening stuff this week but sticking with toms, french beans and thinking about a potato tyre tower type thing- anyone had any success/got any tips with the latter?

Also, I’ve got this blog stuck looking rather dull- how do I get it back to the dewdrop thing?

How would week starting the 18th or week starting the 25th be for you r.e. a return visit?

  12. Heather Says:

sorry, the whole emailing thing rather slipped my mind with the last para.

  13. Heather Says:

Did Anna ever get Pip’s email?

  14. Liz Says:

Apparently the trick to sweetcorn is to plant a big enough block of it so that the flowers and pollen can air pollinate. We had some success last year with 9 plants, but I am planning at least 16 this year. HTH somebody…

  15. Heather Says:

    Yes, I beleive it’s a 2×2 block as a minimum.

  16. Joyce Says:

Could Sarah have meant it? She REALLY isn’t going to blog today????

  17. Sarah Says:

Heather – yes please to the return visit (Wednesdays or Fridays are good days here), and yes Anna did get Pip’s email thank you :) You should be able to change the blog somewhere on the sidebar!

Sweetcorn – oops, not sure I have space for that many. Might have to take out the left hand side flower bed as well, the rate I’m going!

Joyce – erm, I have done other things, for once ;)
