Today’s post

April 21st, 2005 by Sarah

The mail this morning had us pretty pleased – Child Tax Credit people have finally sorted out our figures for last year and given us a backpayment. It’s almost nicer not to have the proper amount for the whole year and then get a lump. We asked the kids what they thought we should do with it and both girls talked about giving it to people who need it more than us, so I suspect we will gift some of it, have paid off the overdraft already, and there might be a bit left over too … :)

And you trust them to have got the right figures……..they’ll probably want it back next month plus some more ;-)

I think that’s so great that your s thought of other people. Is this another project in the making? – to find somewhere where they want to give something. Btw, have you come across the hunger site? http://www.thehungersite.com Give a free cup of rice everyday with a single click – honest – and there’s no catch whatsoever!

excellent stuff! I would just spend it on myself too though, so well done for them to think about others :)

Nah, thankfully as this is for last year it is right. We have to keep this year’s as that is wrong too, the other way, so we will end up having to pay that back, but they cocked up last year’s figures from July onwards, we phoned them weekly for a while to try and sort it out, eventually gave up and it took this long …

    That’s good.

I think, personally, that if people can afford to give a benefit away they shouldn’t get in the first place. I would include us in that I am not talking about you specifically. Just don’t get paying taxes to give money to people who don’t *need* it.

I agree with you. TBH, the year that the figures were meant to be for, we really did need it! It’s just taken them this long to sort it out – I think the figures concerned were 03/04, so well over a year ago!

  8. Chris Says:

    I really wasn’t meaning you……it was a general observation.

  9. Barbara Says:

So how would you define *need*, Chris? Not that I don’t agree with you too. I’m just interested.

  10. Chris Says:

After today’s van incident my definition of need would be us :-(
