Decamped

May 18th, 2005 by Sarah

The forecast was for rain pretty much solidly for the next three days (Thurs, Fri, Sat), so I decided to take the tent down early in order to avoid having to do it in the rain. Call me a wimp if you like ;) I guess I might not have done the same thing if I didn’t live so nearby, but what the heck, I don’t really care if I’m being a wuss or not, I’m home, dry, and sleeping in a nice warm bed!

So much of this morning was spent tidying/re-packing our stuff, in a leisurely manner. I managed to pop up to the top of the field and have coffee with some of my local friends who were also at hesfes, and on the way met a fellow blogger – all due to my ‘blogging this’ t-shirt, so that amused me somewhat – scroll down a bit on this page for the photo.

Just about managed to collect all the children together at lunchtime and we went over to the beach for the labyrinth building, but it was really windy, so we ended up in the cafe for a hot chocolate/ice cream instead! Stayed on the beach for a bit, but not that long – but it was nice to have been part of something bigger with other fellow hesfesers. Back at the site, we finished taking the tent down and stuffed everything in the car – just about managed to fit it all in so Steve was spared having to come and transport children.

Merry and her family have decamped too, and re-camped in our house! We are planning to go back to Charmouth tomorrow for some of the day, and then we have the pleasure of the Puddles’ company for another night as well I think. Josiah is insistent that as it is Thursday tomorrow, *he* should go to Start Right, but I think he’s way too tired, and I definitely can’t see us being ready to take him at the right time in the morning!

  2. HelenJ Says:

Also missed you all, and welcome back. Shame weather not so good really. I take it even Merry’s fleecies not up to the night cold – better be better at kessie – oh that reminds me…..

  3. Chris F Says:

    Wuss :-)

Ah well at least it means it will probably be nice and dry for everyone else :-) Wecome home safe and sound.

  4. Sarah Says:

Actually Merry’s fleecy jamas were wonderful, I wasn’t really ever cold in bed apart from my feet!

Kirsty, no I didn’t take many photos at all – always feels a bit superfluous to get the camera out when Chris P is around!

We are going back this afternoon/evening so hopefully will still get the benefit of any Sod’s law dryness – and if not, will still get to come home to a dry house afterwards ;)

Well I am sitting here using a wireless enabled laptop being particularly non-wimpy. I can’t believe you buggered off just after we met. I must be little bit more smelly than I thought.

Your piccy is up at http://mobloghesfes.blogspot.com if you are interested!

Hope it rains again tonight just so I can say how rufftytuffty we all are.

    Cheers

    Peachy

Mike Peach outlasted you Sarah!!!!!, if I recall correctly he *hates* HESFES…..something about children not brushing their hair and stuff..

  7. Sarah Says:

I made sure I brushed my kids’ hair every day ;)

  8. Chris Says:

You and your warped priorities….how about feeding the little scavengers next year ;-)

  9. Sarah Says:

Next year I will bring nothing but crisps and chocolate bars with me, then they won’t need to scavenge quite so much … one would hope …

  10. Chris Says:

And fruit…..they demolished our fruit bowl…..in fact they ate anything they could lay their hands on!!

  11. Sarah Says:

Well, you should have told them to bugger off back to their own tent for food, and not let them lay their hands on it! I’ve come home and had to make banana bread with my leftover bananas, and had plenty of other snacks left over too!

  12. Chris Says:

Um I wasn’t in the tent when they helped themselves……….and the one time I told J he couldn’t have another lolly he almost burst into tears. Next year we shall lock the food in the van.

  13. Mike Peach Says:

Me, not like HESFES! Surely you must be mistaken……

(Really enjoyed this year. It is amazing how much everybody else has learned in the last three years)

  14. Chris Says:

Yeah Mike, we cut all our kids’ hair before we went so as not to offend you. What really got me though were the grown men with wacky facial hair…….disgraceful.

  15. Mike Peach Says:

I hear that some of them grew dodgy facial hair just for HESFES…Shocking!

  16. Alison Says:

Shocking posers ;-) Almost as bad as the kids who dyed their hair for the occasion …
