Sponge and Ruler

Smoothie of the day: Banana & Mango with Apple juice

Hectic morning turned out okay. Kids all got up and ready in time to leave around 8.40am, getting us to Stage Studios just before 9am. We realised that Anna’s thing didn’t finish until 10.15am so decided to go to the park for 45 minutes, get to Joe’s thing on time at 10am then be a bit late picking Anna up.

Bit disappointed to find that no-one else turned up to the suzuki intro session; we thought there was another 4yo starting at the same time as Josiah, and they would have done some group stuff together. Anyway the teacher, Mr Featherstone, was lovely, and Joe responded well to him – we’ve come away with a sponge & ruler violin – to get used to how to stand/hold the instrument. Steve and I are apparently going to have lessons as well, which is quite scary, but I definitely see the point of it, as otherwise you as a parent must find it hard to support your child in learning. I’m actually just worried that Steve will be better than me ;)

Got back to pick Anna up and it seemed she’d had a good time although she didn’t want to have to choose between this and Stagecoach. I am reserving judgement – we have to give Stagecoach half a term’s notice, so she might as well finish this term, and we’ll decide which one to go on with at half term. Now I just have ballet to sort out – we *might* be having dance lessons again at home ed group but it’s not definite yet.

Popped to Sainsbury’s on the way home for some shopping, had to buy Abbie a couple of pairs of trousers as she seems to have shot up, at least too far to fit into her jeans from last winter. Managed to get Joe some black trousers for Aunty Mimi’s wedding, too, but no luck on the white shirts, they only had polo shirts, what are schools coming to these days, honestly  ;)

Had corn on the cob for lunch and now we’re settling down to veg out in front of the original Superman … well, they’re vegging out, I’m doing that laundry I procrastinated over last night ;) After that we’re planning tea, a chapter of The Magician’s Nephew, then more TV. Lazy day really, but hey, it is Saturday.

Have only had one phonecall from the office this morning, which was fielded successfully – thankfully my mobile tells me when it’s a forwarded call, so that’s handy. Hopefully we won’t have missed too many customers on the site, either.

We walked to the video shop in the pouring rain, in the hope that a bit of puddle stomping would let me run off some steam. Hannah walked sedately beside me, pretending she didn’t know me ;-) Got the Pacifer out for this evening, and just about to plan a night of X factor, Casualty it it’s on, and then the dvd, accompanied by pizza (tuna at my end, margerita at hers) and fairy cakes. We’ve just stopped drama after three years. I’m quite glad to get Saturdays back (says she, who has moaned about this one since I opened my eyes). Off to get our jum jams on, and open the wine :-)

  2. Joyce Says:

Oh, and suzuki – we’re going to see someone the week after next we well. Hannah has Jax’s violin. I’m not sure if she’ll be considered too old to start suzuki, but we’re going to have a chat about it. And if the teacher can teach either Bob or me to play anything, then I’ll be a convert for life. Is it the same parent that has to go every week then? I guess it is.

  3. Sarah Says:

Well, we’re both going to go – jobshare includes this! Joe’s lessons will be on Saturdays and we usually do every other Saturday, so it makes sense for us both to do the parents’ lessons. I hate being the only one who can help them practise, so this way Steve can’t cry off. He’s actually far more musical than I am, he just doesn’t read music – which with suzuki at this stage anyway isn’t a problem. Look forward to hearing how you guys get on.

We’re having much the same evening as you (although I didn’t stretch to pizza, we had toast! can’t be bothered to cook when Steve’s away) but without the alcohol – what am I doing?!

  4. Jax Says:

Hm, I had a bottle of wine in my plan for this evening, but with the stinking headache I’ve got and the paracetamol I’ve already taken, don’t think i’ll be going there. Hope Hannah enjoys the violin….

  5. Joyce Says:

LOL – I think that’s why Hannah probably made it herself – she realised there might not be much on the cards in the way of sustenance if it was left to me. I’m sad I’m leaving a stage behind forever, but there are some real benefits in having an independent child :-)

  6. Sarah Says:

Toast and honey *is* Anna’s idea of a balanced meal, though

  7. lou Says:

There is going to be ballet, seems that we have enough people that want to do it. x

  8. Lin Says:

Busy morning then, lol! What do the boys do when the girls do ballet or do they join in too?

Didn’t know that Sainsbury’s did clothes, (or am I being a bit thick and misreading here?), what do they wear like? Josh has to wear a proper school shirt and tie so all is not lost with schools Woolies has some white ones in Josiah’s size if thats any good to you?

  9. Lin Says:

Afterthought…. Woolies also had some lovely white linen shirts for boys in the summer, don’t know if there’s any left but it may be worth a look. They wash and iron up really well, even after an eight year old has worn them to the park!

  10. Heather Says:

Joyce, I’m learning suzuki so Hannah is definetly not too old. Sim’s Dad started in his 40′s as a total novice and is now teaching cello and able to play violin and piano also.

Pip started with a decorated frusilli box, sponge, ruler and dowel for a bow! Has he got carpet feet yet?

  11. Sarah Says:

He will have, next week, I need to go and find a carpet offcut in the scrapstore!

  12. Heidi Says:

So did you buy the trousers from Sainsburys? Just thought I might try and get the same thing for Caleb, although I’m sure no-one will notice if they’re not exactly the same!

  13. Sarah Says:

Trousers were from Sainsbury’s, but they were ‘school’ ones, so I doubt they’d have the same in Caleb’s size!
