Jesse Tree
Inspired by Barbara last year, I decided to start a Jesse Tree for our family this year in the run up to Christmas. I like the idea of celebrating advent, although I only realised at the last minute that it starts tomorrow. I’m usually pretty rubbish at sticking to these things, too, so I hope we can manage to see it through! (found lots of other advent activities here, too, if anyone’s interested)
Still, we’re just about sorted, and the kids like the idea too. Josiah was a bit annoyed for a while as he thought we were going to put the Christmas tree up. I refused, on the grounds that we usually wait until after Abbie’s birthday, but it then sparked a discussion about real vs artificial trees and whether we should have a real one this year – I’m must admit I’m tempted

I wanted to do a Jesse Tree this year- yikes to tomorrow though. Actually though I am going to be on my own for about 4 hours so could use some of that time….as well as go to the gym!
Thanks for reminder

We usually do an advent candle thing and light one each Sunday, but we haven’t got organised this year. Definitely not organised enough for a Jesse Tree this year, though I think its a lovely idea in principle. Where are you getting your symbols from? Are you just printing them out or have you got real items to hang on?

REAL tree Sarah – no contest! We’re waiting for 01 Dec to get the chocolate advent calendars out. That’s about as advent as we get – sorry!

Real!!
And don’t bother with an expensive no-needle drop one, they lack the smell and the satisfying whoooosh as the needles go up the hoover
We do advent calendars and candles. The candle has always been more popular than the candle because you can *see* the time passing. Obviously we’re not celebrating Christmas as Christians but the presents really don’t have top place in the excitement stakes here. Pip loves the “family holiday feel”, although I suspect Titch might have a different view of what she’s looking forward to :rolls:

Kath, I downloaded a pdf of symbols from the site I linked to in the post – although I hope we might get inspired to make different things where appropriate, otherwise it will get a bit boring!

All printed, some ideas starting to form, now off to find a branch

Thanks Sarah, should have followed your links. Going to print them out and see how far we get – might just do a simple tree on paper for this year after all.
