Strange Child
Have had a manic morning here today, not least because in the middle of it I had a phonecall from school to say that Abbie wasn’t very well. At that particular moment we were stuck on the industrial estate in the city in the middle of a load of work, with only one car between us …
I immediately panic and want to drive there instantly, whereas Steve immediately thinks ‘they’re making a fuss over nothing’ and finishes a couple of jobs before we get to school (argument only just avoided in the car on the way
). Realised that we have never actually had a really ill child and wondered what it would be like to face something serious with one of them! Got there in under 15 minutes which wasn’t too bad.
Abbie’s teacher had asked the first aider in, and wanted her to ring us. The first aider had been concerned because she was complaining of a tummy ache in the vague appendix sort of area, seemed really hot and flushed, so wanted us to come and make a judgement call on it, as Abbie was maintaining that she didn’t want to leave school.
Anyway, got to the school, located Abbie in her class, pulled her out to see how she was, only for her to insist that she wants to stay at school, that she feels better, and is fine. Gave her the choice as we could easily have taken her home at that point but she was adamant that she wanted to stay in school. First Aider takes one look at her (20 mins after the initial phonecall) and agrees that she seems much better. So we left her there. Weird. I’m sure when I was a kid that if I’d had the opportunity to get out of school for the day I would have taken it like a shot. Although having said that I distinctly remember throwing up while at school one day and then while I was waiting to be picked up I finished off some maths work or other that I had been in the middle of. Always said Abbie was like me, poor kid
I guess that just shows how much they are enjoying being there … sigh.
(and she’d better not blimming have appendicitis after that, either, I’ve got plans for half term!)

You will, sorry about that. I’ll be at Dad & Lorraine’s midweek though, probably see you then?

Hope she’s ok, (daft little thing for not getting time off school though
).
Appendicitis – reminds me, hows the trauma center game going? Worth buying or leave it on the shelf?

Trauma Center – I’m stuck on one annoying operation! I like it, but I am *really* stuck …

Abbie is a nutter! I’m off school basically because I didn’t want to do games!
Mim – I think you are, on the Wednesday.

Ben, you slacker, that is such a girl reason for not going to school!
May 24th, 2006 at 16:28
Hope nothing else comes of the tummy ache
We have managed to lose our Trauma Centre, somewhere between the front room and V’s bedroom. Total PITA.

Sarah – Rog and I can NEVER get to school promptly. Roger’s theory is if it’s really serious she should be in an ambulance and if it isn’t 30 more minutes isn’t going to kill her. I know the school often don’t want a poorly child on their hands but they do understand that you can’t drop everything and sprint over. Remember the day you went to scoop up Riona for me? It was over an hour since the school first called me and by the time you got there Riona was fine. It’s a balance but at this age, when they are still super duper keen about school, they often think better of going home to BORING Mummy (or that’s what I think I can be compared to!) and staying with their friends

Or, even worse, BORING Daddy!

Being boring like me takes some effort you know. You have to be born with talent like that.
May 24th, 2006 at 21:39
Completely insane, in fact, i’d use that as an excuse to dereg her. She is clearly losing the sense she was born with.

Merry – Abbie is lovely and you know that!
I think, perhaps, you are not in the boring league that Rog and I are in?!!
May 25th, 2006 at 18:46
Oh i dunno Ruth, i’m pretty boring. And i lost your blog addy, which i miss
Can i have it back?
May 25th, 2006 at 19:24
But Ruth if it did require an ambulance wouldn’t you want to be there???
May 25th, 2006 at 20:49
Of course I wouldn’t Chris. My work is far more important isn’t it
May 25th, 2006 at 20:50
Merry – my blog address is linked from Sarah’s blog – the children call me daddy one.
