Keep not having time to blog!
Mainly because we are having a lovely week; we have a friend staying plus her three girls (nearly 7, nearly 5, and nearly 1!), and so there’s plenty to keep me busy before blogging
Ruth is my most longstanding friend, we met when I was 8 and she was 6, grew up together until we were teenagers, and kept in touch ever since – sometimes well, sometimes not so well, but it’s lovely to have resurrected the friendship enough to have them to stay this week, we’re getting on like a house on fire (I love it when you can pick up with friends and feel as though nothing’s changed even if you haven’t spoken to one another in months), and the children are all getting on famously as well.
Monday was just spent in a blur of getting ready, shopping, Caitlin & Riona were here for the afternoon when Ruth arrived, and we ended up at the park for some of the afternoon too.
Yesterday we got up early (well, I didn’t get up as early as Ruth, her children don’t seem to be quite as well trained in the art of lazy mornings as mine are
) and went down to the beach first thing, before it got too hot. But it was still warm enough for plenty of playing and if we’d taken food I’m sure we could have stayed longer! The children built elaborate sandcastles and played in rock pools, and Ruth’s baby sat with us, looked gorgeous, and ate shells
Today Ruth’s going to visit her brother who has recently moved nearby, and we have an afternoon of music lessons in store. We’ve got lovely things planned for Thursday and Friday too so I’ll try to get round to blogging them then …
Gotta go, everyone’s coming down for breakfast!

Sounds lovely. I don’t have any friends from that long ago – my oldest friend I met when we we were 13 but we’re only really on Christmas card exchange terms. I’ve really enjoyed spending lots of time with my friend Lucy who I met when we were 17 again recently.
Baby does indeed look very cute

Yeah, I’ve lost touch with everyone before 16, apart from a couple I might see as my parents know their parents. Glad you’re all having such a nice time

Say Hi to Ruth from us! Can’t believe the kids are that old. Spoke to Simon on the phone yesterday in fact, which was nice – same kind of relationship between us really – we can pick up no matter how long it’s been!

I’ve still got 2 friends from when i was 14, one in fact from when i was 11. Ridiculous how easy it is to spend 7 years among 500 people and only have 2 worth staying in touch with!

I know no-one from school anymore. It saddens me so i don’t like to think about it.

I know people from school and they keep reminding me of all my annoying habits that I had as a teenager (now I only have 37 year old annoying habits)

Ps. That was not the same Ruth as the one staying with Sarah.

The Ruth who is staying is not really a friend from school, more from being in the same village/church when we were kids, then we lived round the corner from each other for a while, and then not far from one another as teenagers too. And she’s a fellow Nanci Griffith fan
We did go to the same schools as it happens but as she’s 2 years younger than me and I was 2 years ahead at school I can categorically say that school had absolutely nothing to do with our friendship! I don’t have any friends ‘from school’. Which just goes to show that school socialisation is a load of rubbish … now how did we get on to that old topic again!?!!
