Towing Lesson

July 3rd, 2007 by Sarah

This is how I am going to spend a huge (and expensive!) number of hours over the next couple of weeks. My test is booked for the middle of the month. Apparently the towing test only has a 20% pass rate which is a little scary. Going to have to practice a lot as well as the lessons. The driving’s okay, it’s the reversing manoeuvre that’s a pain.

You probably can’t tell but it *is* me driving the RAV4. Steve thought to bring the camera to take a picture for the blog (aaah, sweet) and even more thoughtful, brought the camera along secretly so that I didn’t get worried about him taking a picture! Don’t know why he thought I would be worried – I’m not really nervous about it, just slightly cheesed off to have to be tested on it all when most people I know just got the class on their licence automatically! Ah well, there we go.

But standards (in general) were much higher when we took our standard tests. It’s a bit like your GCSEs versus our O levels – not really equivalent.

    Two words spring to mind.

Giggle. I am so glad not to have to do that. Though i would NEVER tow anyway, so it’s sort of a shame i can’t just bequeath my rights too you. But then that would be illegal ;)

  4. Merry Says:

Two words – “old codgers” ;)

  5. Ruth Says:

Sarah, if you can pass your driving test in the circumstances you did it, you’ll walk the towing test. Golly, glad I never had to do this! (I am SOOOOOOOOOO old!).

PS. You free tomorrow for coffee/lunch or anything?

  6. Sarah Says:

lol, yes, although I’m not intending to do this one under anything like the same circumstances!

Tomorrow – was planning to go to either Home Ed group (if weather is good) or Crealy (if weather is crap) mid-morning ish. Could do coffee first thing or cup of tea later on before school kicks out?

  7. Ruth Says:

Coffee first thing gets me out of bed! What time are you free?

  8. Sarah Says:

anytime after 9 is ok, until about 10 ish.

  9. Ruth Says:

    An early morning then!!!!!!!!!

  10. t-bird Says:

oh blimey! I have all the relevent bits on my licence (cos I’m “old” aparently!) but I will confess that the idea of towing fills me with utter dread!

  11. Ruth Says:

I got called middle aged today. I’m 38. Oh my word. It’s come at last.

  12. Michelle Says:

Just remember: Don’t try to retrieve your sat nav from the passenger footwell whilst driving around a roundabout.

  13. Tim Says:

If you can’t pass the test, you can always apply for Dutch citizenship, they give out a free caravan with every passport. :-)

  14. Joyce Says:

I’m allowed to tow, but I’m terrified. I keep meaning to go back to driving school for lessons, and then I have this horrific thought that maybe they could rescind my licence totally!

  15. Sarah Says:

Yeah, I know. The instructor pulled me up for speeding at least 3 times!

I’ve never towed but we’re going to Skye next week with a boat, so I guess it’s time to learn…
