Tour of Nord-Holland and Flevoland

August 16th, 2007 by Sarah

We woke up to a grey rainy morning so an even slower start than usual. Eventually we got ready and decided to take the car for a tour around some outlying towns, to see a bit more of the Netherlands than just Amsterdam.

We stopped at Edam first, and had a nice walk around. It is a very picturesque little town, obviously a bit touristy too, but still nice enough. We bought cheese and more postcards.

From there we went on to Volendam but decided not to stop, headed further up to Hoorn instead. We walked through the town of Hoorn, complete with fairground in the town centre, and had lunch in a cafe, which was nice.

We took a scenic route back to the campsite, driving up further and then crossing the Ijsselmeer on a really long road that took us back down to Flevoland then up/along to Amsterdam and the campsite.

Very long road across the Ijsselmeer Tasting genuine Edam cheese!

Ate cheese and biscuits and tapas bits from Zeeburg’s shop for dinner – must say that the cheese (from Henri Willig) was really nice! (Hoping the cheese left in our trailer’s fridge survives its journey home, too!)
