End of the week

February 9th, 2008 by Sarah

My working week ended as it began, with sick children! Abbie was ill after school on Friday, closely followed by Anna in the evening. Both of them have been well trained, I am pleased to say, and managed their own sickness very cleanly! We were marginally amused by Anna, who attempted not to tell us (or me, at least) that she was ill, because she was worried that the 24 hour rule might apply to her planned ‘town and cinema with friends’ trip this afternoon.

Thankfully we assumed correctly that it was the same 24h thing that Joe had had on Sunday night, and they were both fine by this morning. Abbie moped about and declared that she still had a headache so didn’t go to orchestra, but Anna jumped out of bed to tell me she felt fine and was going to do everything as planned (I think she may need an early night after it all though!).

So I took her to orchestra first, where they had members of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra tutoring their sections today. Anna came out thrilled to report that they’d had an actual cellist with them (last time they had a double bassist), and she’d really enjoyed it. I can’t stop being incredibly proud of her for having got to where she is both from the ability point of view but also that she is enjoying her music so much.

Meanwhile we had a visit from friends of mine and Joe’s, lovely to catch up with them – they obviously thought it was nice too as Josiah ended up back at their house this afternoon!

Picked Anna up and came home for lunch, then half an hour later she was picked up by her friend’s mum to go into town with a few other girls as well. I think it’s the first time she’s ever done this – she’s been to the cinema with a friend but never into town. I just hope her friends have a better sense of direction than she does, I could see her getting lost on the way back to the cinema! She was ridiculously excited about it, anyway, and I’m sure they will have had a great time.

We cleaned the guinea pigs out, then popped into town with Abbie (after dropping Josiah off with the aforementioned friends) because we had some shoes which needed mending – trawled the charity shops and meandered around pet shops while we were waiting, which was nice :)

Now home and waiting for everyone else to return home for some tea.

It’s been a good week, work was … um, hard work – but I enjoyed it a lot, and I think as I get used to it more, it will be really good. The kids seemed perfectly happy with the changes that affected them too, namely going to and from school by themselves – not exactly a big deal! They liked the responsibility of letting themselves into the house for 5 minutes before I got home. Will have to keep games of scrabulous for the weekend though, as I really was exhausted in the evenings, so I do apologise to people who waited ages for me to play! Steve helped a lot with keeping on top of the washing – I am sincerely hoping that wasn’t just a one-week wonder! Haven’t quite worked out when the food shopping is going to get done, or who is going to do it, never mind the housework … but these things are minor details ;)

glad to hear it went well – I’m sure you’ll all work out a new routine soon.

Plan meals ahead taking into account how much time you have and who’s around. Use online food shopping. Honestly, it’s worth the extra £2-50 per week!

Pleased to hear it seems to be working logistically as well as you having enjoyed the work. Look forward to hearing more details about the actual job when you are not so worn out by it! :) And I remember my first trip into town with friends at about Anna’s age and how very exciting it was too!

    Hi Sarah
I’m still getting to grips with Facebook and not finding the time to go on as often as I’d like. I gather you’ve got a job in school? Is it the same school as the children? Is it full time? Have you just finished your first week or have you been there a little longer?

Is it your half term yhis week? Beth, Will & I are currently enjoying some lovely weather at our newly refurbished park.

    Hope you’re having fun

    Tonia
