Little Cook
Have had a lovely day today, with the exception of an hour of silliness at lunchtime, but that was Steve’s fault. Joe and I had friends round this morning, which was lovely, with added cakes.
While they were here, the girls tidied their room. They have cleared a huge bin bag full of soft toys from their beds, which I am hiding in a cupboard for a while, wondering if they will actually ask for them back later! Operation Tidy Room, necessary because we have two French girls coming to stay at the end of the week and they’re having the girls’ room, is well underway; should be finished tomorrow. If only the wallpaper wasn’t ripped in various places it would look quite nice – must re-decorate that room.
Steve came home for lunch (much later than expected, hence the silliness from the kids, they are rubbish at waiting!), then after that we popped to Sainsbury’s. Got home and faffed around putting the shopping away, then Josiah appeared back in the kitchen to cook dinner. It took the rest of the afternoon but was well worth it. He made some gorgeous veggie pasties from a recipe card he’d picked up the other day, from Ashburton Cookery School.
Can’t find the recipe online but the filling was basically 600g vegetables, roasted (we used peppers, courgette, onion, and butternut squash), 1 can of chick peas, mashed slightly, and 250g grated cheese. One pack of puff pastry easily made 5 (could probably have got 6 out of it if we’d made slightly smaller ones), and we had them with some salad for tea. Very Very Yummy, will make them again I’m sure. I helped with various things along the way but Joe did the vast majority of it, and it was really fun to work alongside one another. The kitchen was a complete state at the end, a minor detail!
Now watching Dr Who before their bedtime, as we all missed it on Saturday

lol, I know, he was laughing at himself when he watched it back, saying “hang on, those are the only pasties I’ve ever made!”
