A two note solo

December 14th, 2008 by Sarah

At the end of a weekend of blog posts dedicated entirely to Abbie, at tonight’s orchestra concert I sat at one side of the audience, having been ‘on duty’ during the rehearsal and packed tea break before the concert. This meant that I could hardly see Anna, for a change, but I had an excellent view of Abbie.

Recorder section Happy Birthday Abbie

She’d been really pleased to get a tiny solo at the end of Snowflakes – a piece that apparently is brought out every Christmas for fear of mutiny from the strings section if they don’t play it! In fact I think it is on my video of last year’s Christmas concert; Anna declared that she loved playing it this year because she could actually play it, whereas last year she couldn’t! Nice to have a bit of a measure of one’s own progress like that. Anyway, here is the video of this year’s performance, with Abbie’s two notes at the very end.

My other favourite piece tonight was Tintinnabulations by Katherine Punwar, so here it is for posterity … sound probably a bit unbalanced especially as I was sitting on one side, but hey ho.

The concert was great fun as usual, Abbie had ‘Happy Birthday’ played in her honour as well. Bit sad that Steve and Joe didn’t make it but I was able to give their tickets to a couple of parents who hadn’t been able to get one so that was nice. Great Aunty Jacky managed to get there as the family member (we like to have at least one at each concert!) in the audience, and she enjoyed it too.

In addition to all this lovely stuff, I sat next to a friend who recently got an iphone so she was demonstrating it to me, making me look forward to the imminent arrival of mine even more!! Oh, and my latest week’s play in Animal Crossing is up on GamePeople ;)
