Bumper Cars or Dodgems?!

August 16th, 2009 by Sarah

Today started with yet more sorting out; Steve and I finally have our new room tidied up, just a few finishing touches to make and we’ll be there. Anna went off to church, but the rest of us didn’t make it. I was throwing away random out of date medicines as I cleaned and sorted the bathrooms, not sure what on earth Gaviscon dated 2001 was doing still in my cupboard, but there we go! And did you know that calamine lotion left for 7 years does actually solidify so much that you can’t get it out of the bottle even after soaking for hours?! Ahem  !

We had lunch and then Anna gathered up her last few bits and her cello, and she went off to her Grade 5 Theory Camp this week. She travelled up with a friend from Josiah’s violin group, who we’ve known for a while but still not terribly well – his dad drove them both up. The camp is a fair way from us, too, so it felt a bit odd to me to let her go totally on her own, to a place which we’ve never been to, with no-one that we really know! Still, she phoned a bit later to let us know that she was there safely and had her tent up, and she sounded fine – I’m probably worrying too much. She’s been looking forward to it a lot, and took practically all her ‘fun’ music in the hopes of finding friends to make music with :)

After that my sister and brother-in-law turned up, and we eventually went out to a pub which had the football showing, as BIL is a big Liverpool follower. They lost! But it was a pleasant afternoon, the people not so interested in football played outside on the swings/read books & magazines/played skittles etc. Very friendly pub!

Tonight we treated the younger two to a quick trip to the fair after dinner – we never usually do this, but it was fun. Argued afterwards whether the bumper cars should be called that, or dodgems? Abbie was a wicked driver!

Now we’re all enjoying the evening; Steve and I are watching the Pelican Brief, while Abbie invited Josiah upstairs to sleep in the top room – not much sleeping going on yet though!

It depends entirely on whether you were hitting each other in them or dodging each other surely?!

Well in that case Abbie and Joe were definitely driving bumper cars – Josiah’s complaint was that Steve kept taking over – and Steve was trying to dodge … but I think I felt more bumping than dodging!
