Now entering the perpetual state of catchup …

January 10th, 2009 by Sarah

In other words, we’re all back to work and school, with no time to blog even if we had done anything interesting worth blogging about (we haven’t). Finally got round to writing a roundup of last year (in the sidebar), of sorts anyway. And then our photobook for the year arrived and I remembered lots of other things that might have made it into the yearly roundup if any of us had remembered it …

Anna had a birthday, which passed without much fuss last Saturday as her sleepover and treat are this weekend (more on that tomorrow). She was really happy with all her presents, so that was gratifying – she’s the one child who was easy to buy for this year as I knew exactly what she would like and was able to get it. Clothes and music books :) And she had enough combined Christmas and birthday money to splash out on some Rocket Dog pumps in the sale, as well as a new sim card for her phone.

Sharing silly pictures via bluetoothIt’s only a hand me down from me, but if anyone wants the new number please email me. Joe has one too, not to be outdone, phone handed down from Steve. We have already unwrapped the (brand new, neither Steve nor I ever used them) headphones and banned music being played on mobiles without headphones attached, as phone mania has taken over. Plenty of bluetooth sharing of silly pictures going on …

The kids and I all happy to be back at school (well, I was happy when the children came back! school is never quite the same without them, even if training stuff is interesting).

The garage is hanging in there; Steve is keeping busy and hoping to take on an apprentice at the workshop to help out (and train) when Terry is well enough to be back at work, even if he can’t actually do the work himself, iyswim.

Anna came home with an autumn term report which annoyed me intensely for the single minute that I bothered looking at it. I think I dislike Y9 predictions being based on CAT tests taken in Y7; I also dislike predictions on other subjects not based on CAT tests being made arbitrarily – in fact, why on earth are predictions for Y9 SAT levels (I assume that’s what they were, there was no actual explanation on the letter) necessary in the middle of Y7 anyway? What do schools do with them? Hm. So many things I dislike about the institution of school, I’m afraid …

All 3 enjoyed choir this week, Anna’s happy that she’s been asked to accompany the (primary school) choir on the piano as well. Other stuff has all started up again too so we are back to full throttle busy-ness. Musical goals have been set, so the children have festivals and exams to prepare for, which will be good for them :)

Homework this weekend has included sports vocab in french, decimals, the 3 times table, repeating patterns, forces, adjectives, and a couple of games reviews added in for good measure. Plus essential housework!

Right, that’s enough for now. More tomorrow as hopefully I’ll have photos of Anna’s birthday treat :)
