Spelling Bee

March 16th, 2009 by Sarah

Today Anna went and took part in the regional heat of the Times Spelling Bee. She was part of a team, and they hadn’t practiced at all so couldn’t be that surprised to come 4th out of 9. I would hate to take part in something like that, I’m way too competitive. It’s the team thing that does it, I would hate to be in a team (what if someone else made a daft mistake like definately?), I might just about do it on my own but even then, what if I didn’t win?!! I’d never forgive myself for failing at something like spelling!

Anyway, she had a ball, they went to the cinema for it (strange venue, I thought, but never mind) and were given free popcorn and bottles of water, so a morning off school to doss around like that was right up her street, she doesn’t give a toss about winning or losing the spelling competition!

There are some fun games on the website if anyone fancies having a go :)

ha ha that made me laugh – if you were in a spelling bee I can see you getting up and clouting someone with the Oxford English at any given moment! Good for Anna and her laid back attitude! xx

  2. Alison Says:

ROFL – yes, can just see it, Janice, muttering “flipping idiots” under her breath ;-)

Glad Anna had a good time :)

  3. Sarah Says:

Yeah, she’s a much more well rounded person than me, obviously ;) I actually haven’t managed to score full marks on the hard spelling challenge on the website yet. Although if I carry on long enough I will do, as eventually I’ll learn all the words ;)

stupid game. I put “flea” and they said I was wrong and it should be “flee”.

They didn’t define the bloody word.

  5. Sarah Says:

pmsl, you have to ask for more details on the word if it’s one like that which has multiple meanings/spellings. I rest my case on why I would hate to be in a team!!!
I did the same though, and then had to laugh at what it was – one of the ones I got wrong was ‘cash’ (my spelling) when it should have been ‘cache’! DOH!

  6. Michelle Says:

ah! will go back. Didn’t see that!

  7. Michelle Says:

sullen sounded like solemn. Pah to it.

  8. Elizabeth Says:

The ‘cache’ one would have had me laughing at myself for days!!!

Grr am officially addicted to that site now. Spent half an hour on it last night promising myself ‘just one more go…’
