Choices, choices

April 29th, 2009 by Sarah

Every time the Exeter Festival programme comes through the letterbox we find it really hard to choose – we have to limit ourselves to one or two things otherwise the cost just mounts up, but there is always a lot that we’d love to go to.

Anyway this year we’ve opted for La Serenissima as a family, because they’re performing bassoon, violin and recorder concertos in their concert, one instrument for each child, so that suits us rather well. And we like Vivaldi :)

Steve and I are going to see Martin Taylor but that doesn’t count because the tickets were my birthday present from his parents!

So just deciding whether to add Rotterdam Chamber Orchestra with Julian Lloyd Webber (probably just Anna plus one of us as it’s a weeknight) into the mix – think it has probably got to be done. Steve rather fancied seeing the Pavao Quartet, but I think it was based on something other than their music! And I would have loved to go to one of the choral concerts, but we can’t do everything. Just hope we manage to get some decent seats for the Vivaldi!

As I posted that I realised that the slug had -2 after it … oh yes, I’ve used the title before. Guess that’s what happens when you have been blogging for so long. Anyway. We still haven’t done Ireland. One day.

It is hard to choose from such a good line-up! If I had my way we’d go to a concert every week!

By the way–I nearly keeled over when I saw the prices of flutes! Before I ever say yes again–I’m going to find out how much the instrument costs first!

I think if you know what you’re doing you can pick up a bargain on ebay. We were very lucky with Anna’s cello that way, although I probably won’t be brave enough to do it again when she wants a full size one.

Also, can you hire instruments from the county music service where you are? We have the bassoon on hire. Might be worth looking into.

Don’t forget us ;-) We do sometimes have second hand! Plus prices for friends.

Can’t see Steve’s reason for wanting to see that group at all ;-)
