A Peaky Half Term
We’ve spent a lovely few days away around the Peak District. For the bank holiday weekend we were at the north-westernmost point visiting friends who also have a field perfect for tents! Well, perfect on a nice sunny weekend, anyway ![]()
We weren’t camping, because I didn’t want to tow our trailer up there on my own, so we were kindly lent some bedspace, although the girls ended up sleeping in a tent with their friends after all. Steve had to work but then came up on the train to join us. He’s still very grateful to everyone for putting up with his motor racing and letting him watch the Monaco Grand Prix on his birthday! Did some nice walks and a couple of caches while we were there, as well as enjoying a kids’ cabaret, games, chatting, and fabulous food too.

It was a gorgeous weekend weatherwise which was the icing on the cake – just lovely to see everyone, children and adults alike
On Monday we drove down through the Peak District, taking in a quick tour of Holmfirth and a rather longer walk around a reservoir on the way (yes there were caches there, how did you guess?
). Our base for the next few days was a new and beautifully decorated cottage on the southernmost edge of the Peaks near Ashbourne. On our first day we explored Ashbourne via a multi-cache, and then went walking in a pretty village which, ahem, also happened to have a few caches on a circular walk around it!
Steve wanted to go to an Indian for his birthday so we found a restaurant in Leek and had a lovely meal there – we were the only people in the upstairs of the restaurant and it sounded as though the whole of the local football club were downstairs, but it was still a lovely evening!

Our second day was rather wetter so we treated ourselves to a cinema trip, and along with shopping for a bit of food, that seemed to take up most of the day!
Made the most of our last day today as well, by stopping off with our friends in Birmingham on the way home. They genuinely wanted to go on a cache walk, I didn’t drag them out! But as well as one in the park, I had to bag a puzzle cache that we solved together, and that was a tricky one to find … Liz, whenever you go to look for that one, I have an extra clue for you!

lovely to see you at the weekend, and still very impressed with the helpfulness of your elder daughter
