Kids’ radio survey
A friend forwarded this link on to me and asked for it to be forwarded to as many parents as possible; it originates from Mark Ellis who says:
I do a lot of my work with the radio industry, helping them develop new ideas for stations and programmes. I am also involved in finding new ways to deliver radio-like content over the internet and mobile devices. One area I’m personally interested in is radio for kids, and it is on this subject that I’m writing for your help, as fellow parents of primary aged children.
The BBC recently stopped broadcasting the one and only children’s programme on its main radio networks. As a result, there is now no children’s radio whatsoever broadcast on analogue (i.e. normal) radio in the UK. (There is some children’s programming available on one of the BBC’s digital radio stations [BBC Radio 7], and there is a commercial digital station, Fun Kids, aimed at pre-school kids, available in London.)
I feel that there is a poorly-served demand out there for music and stories for children to listen to, and that the broadcasters could and should be doing something to address this. However, I’d like to hear your opinion.
I have put together a short and simple survey (just 10 multiple choice questions!) to gather some data on this subject. I’d be really grateful if you could spend a few moments filling it in. Once you’ve done so, please forward this note on to other parents, so we can canvass the widest possible range of opinions.

Hello,
Fun Kids is actually a stations for children under ten and their families and just like Mark is after, plays music and stories for that whole age group.
As of Midnight tonight it’s also nationwide. Just do a re-tune on your DAB Digital Radio – or tune in on satellite, cable or the internet at funkidslive.com

Just to respond to Matt’s point, it’s good news that Fun Kids is going national, although I understand that this is just for the summer holidays (and of course only for those with access to digital radio!). Anyway, it will be interesting to hear what more people think of the station – good luck with it.

We filled it out. We’ve listened to Fun Radio as we’re local to it. But do wish there was a bit more non-childish items on it, and fewer commercial character info. BBC 7 is fairly dire for the kids.
