Seasonal things I could do without …

December 8th, 2009 by Sarah

Raffle tickets: so far we’ve had books home from four schools and orchestra. Raffles themselves are ok, I know they’re great for raising money, but I hate the pressure put on me to sell the tickets, so I regularly just send the money back for the ones that they’ve sent home. Is it just me?!

Christmas fairs: another great money-raising idea for charities and schools I know, but argh! Please send in that, give us this, and then please come and spend all your money buying it all back?! Er, no. I’ll just buy some raffle tickets, thanks ;)

Birthdays! I know I only have myself to blame for this, but honestly, whose idea was it to have birthdays either side of Christmas?! My kids aren’t the only ones, I hasten to add – there are two other family birthdays right before Christmas – Bad Planning, folks! I don’t know what to get people for Christmas let alone their birthdays!

Rehearsals: again, I know that all the wonderful Christmas concerts don’t come for nothing, but I’ll moan about them anyway – logistics this year have been worse than ever. Rehearsals for nativity plays are in a league of their own, especially at my school!

Traffic: ugh, yes … so unpredictable. Don’t think I would care if I was actually going shopping as well but when I’m just trying to get around the city and it’s impossible, it makes me cross. Haven’t people heard of the internet?! I’m doing all my shopping from the comfort of my front room this year.
Or at Sainsbury’s ;)

Feel free to add to this list in the comments section!

2 week breaks from gym that my children moan about and say “isn’t fair” because they don’t want time off?

I do the same with raffle tickets, which i fortunately have only gym to worry about on anyway; it isn’t just you! So glad not to have 4 schools in my life – argh!

Birthdays – mine straight after. Not fair but better now i can buy my own presents!!!!

And really it would be churlish to mean that work is so busy we have to work really hard!

Nice new template – is it back to an old one or fresh?

I do exactly the same with the raffle tickets so not only have I had to sit and write my name on the back of what feels like hundreds of them I have to pay £15 for the privilege. Then (in the infants so wasn’t so bad this year) there is the run of own clothes days leading up to the Christmas Fayre so you spend 3 or 4 weeks donating stuff, I then spend 2 days solid in school helping prepare and then… yes we have to go and this year I think it was £25 that got spent. Ditto to the birthdays. Haven’t experienced much traffic rush but then I haven’t tried going anywhere yet! I had got plans to go to Ikea today had we not still been ill, my sis went yesterday (why she couldn’t buy her own Christmas present I do not know ;) ) and she said they were turning people away from Lakeside by 11am as they had run out of spaces. Its mad.

Nah, the template is an old one back again. I was going to do a seasonal one but couldn’t find one I liked. The pink may return one day.

It’s one nativity down (at my school, so the worst one out of the way!), and one more to go today (Abbie’s). And counting!

ho ho ho! You old moany pants!! Mind you – got a fair point with these issues I reckon. I get sick to the back teeth of the squeeze being put on me at Beavers – jumble sales, fundraising events ya di ya di ya, really I’d rather bung them an extra quid or two on the membership and leave me alone….bah humbug

I must have a history of being bah humbug as I never go to anything around Christmas if I can help it. No school fairs, no carol concerts, only one book of raffle tickets (thanks ECO!) and that’s about it I think. No parties either :-( – the price I pay!
