Spanish half term 8: The End

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

A VERY lazy final morning yesterday, I didn’t make it out of bed until 11.30 am and that is *unheard* of for me! I had been awake since the early hours reading and playing various silly games, I hasten to add ;)

Everyone showered and packed and tidied; I popped to the shop for rolls to make a packed tea, used up the last of our food between lunch and the rolls, cleaned and tidied the kitchen, took the bins out, etc. Then there was some final film viewing and games room playing before it was time to go.

Everything went totally smoothly until three quarters of the way into the flight home, the pilot announced that it was too foggy to land at Exeter, so they were diverting us to Birmingham. Not really a disaster, just a bit of a long drawn out journey – Flybe laid on a coach back to Exeter, so we finally got home around 3am, only 4 hours later than planned! It was still fairly foggy though so probably the right call. Today has felt a bit spaced out as a result but we’ve done all the normal stuff for a Saturday (working, orchestra, shopping, housework!) and it’s good to be home. A truly relaxing and fabulous holiday though, we highly recommend the villa if anyone’s interested for next year.

Spanish half term 7: Swimming and Climbing

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

We’d planned, after brunch, to take a trip on the coastal tram all the way to the end of the line in Alicante, then head back to a beach afterwards, but it turned the other way around – mainly because we couldn’t get the ticket machine to work on the first tram we boarded!
So we ended up at El Campello again and the children swam in the sea for all of ten minutes – madness! But they really enjoyed it. Abbie had bought goggles and Joe had bought a snorkel the day before, especially for hunting for underwater treasures … think they may have found a shell or two ;)

After they’d warmed up again we bought chocolate instead of ice creams, then got back on the tram and went to Alicante where we climbed up el Castillo Santa Barbara – some of us more happily than others (you will notice that the girls aren’t in any of these photos!).

Must also mention the strange yoghurts that we had after tea, apparently biscuit flavour! ‘sabor a galleta’, with a picture of a biscuit on the label. Made us laugh, anyway! Ended the day with films and scrabble again :) A lovely penultimate day.

Spanish half term 6: Finally made it to the beach!

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Late getting up again, but eventually made it down to the coastal tram and popped along to El Campello again. This time we walked along the whole length of the beach, hunting for shells and generally bimbling around. Had a nice lunch in a cafe overlooking the beach, then hit the supermarket for more food on the way home.

Must mention a tiny bit of shopping that we did – Joe bought a snorkel for the sea (as you do) and I bought Abbie this dress – there was one a couple of sizes too small for her in the toy boxes at the villa; she’d found it and worn it a few times and looked gorgeous, so I wanted to buy her one of her own. I’m probably biased but I think she is beautiful :)

Spanish half term 5: Around the villa

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

Sunny again. Poor old Josiah was mutilated by mosquitoes during the night and had bites all over his face, poor boy! We had an exceedingly lazy day around the villa today, doing more of the same … so here are some photos of the villa itself …
