The Search for Noah’s Umbrella

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

I want to see this new Veggie Tale! The first Minnesota Cuke story is my favourite (I think, although I am often hard pushed to say which of the Veggie Tales I like the best), and this looks funny too.

And I reckon Noah’s umbrella would be good, perhaps it’s unbreakable and doesn’t turn inside out like every other umbrella I’ve ever owned. Could do with one of those, the amount of rain we’ve had here recently!

I was even in the mood to laugh at the Silly Song this morning :D

And now time to get up and get going, Holiday Club beckons!

Other half of the weekend

Sunday, December 9th, 2007

It’s late and there’s not much to say but here’s a post anyway. We got up and watched the X-Factor results this morning, having sent the kids to bed before them last night, we promised not to watch them ourselves. Not quite who I wanted for the final but then we never vote so I guess I can’t complain about what happens!

Then the children and I went out to church, where they all took part in various parts of the meeting; an acted out story of Deborah, and the girls received a prize (a new Veggie Tales dvd each!) for having learnt their books of the Bible in order recently, so they were really chuffed about that. I was too, I like Veggie Tales! This Christmas Countdown made me laugh; only look if you are a fan of the Silly Songs though (I have the video  )!

We came home for lunch; Abbie had a bath and the customary weekend nit-combing session. Caitlin & Riona popped round with various goodies, and were subjected to Minnesota Cuke (I imagine they didn’t get many of the Indiana Jones related jokes, although our children did … and it is a particularly good offering from Big Idea, that one!) before going off in hunt of DSs to play those together for a while.

I beat Steve at Scrabulous (yes, that is blog-worthy ;) ) and then we all went out to a Christmas meal with friends from church. We took the Wii and organised a tennis tournament after the food, which was fun, but seemed to take ages! Josiah managed to beat Steve in the final so he was pleased with himself about that. Home very late for a school night so the children got hustled to bed and we are following them very shortly.

Whoosh

And there goes another week! We’ve had Robyn with us again this week after a long break for Christmas so that’s been nice – it is really interesting to watch the dynamics between Josiah, Robyn and I at different points in our time together!

The sun shone for about an hour on Wednesday so we took the opportunity of a break in an otherwise wet and windy week, and popped up to Haldon Forest Park. Did the play trail there, which was a nice walk – must go on a day that Robyn is with us as well next time.

Minuet 1

This is Joe and Anna playing together one morning last week, they did pretty well at listening to one another and keeping together and both enjoyed it, which is the most important thing :)

Joe, Robyn and I spent some time at Crealy on Thursday, and some time with friends on Friday, as well as all the other usual stuff that goes on around here. Haven’t got around to reading our library books this week so we must make some more time for reading next week. Anna’s enjoying reading this trilogy though, and has spent a fair bit of time in bed with her book!

I’ve cooked lots of soup from my New Covent Garden recipe books this week, and we’ve done some baking too – breaking my new year’s resolutions there but I was desperate for a chocolate hit, so I had to make cake! The next day I made sure that Abbie took what was left to share at her Wind Group, so that I couldn’t eat it ;)

The weekend has been quiet really – we have spent lots of time in the car together one way or another so there has been a fair bit of talking (and singing, and reciting Psalty lyrics, much to Steve’s disgust ;) ) together which I’ve appreciated. Sometimes we can get through a week and realise that we’ve hardly seen each other (the whole family, I mean), so it’s been nice to have some family time. We ended up all going to Sainsbury’s together (oh yes, we know how to live the high life!) and watching films/Saturday night tv together too, which just felt cosy and comfortable, just how I like Saturday nights to be :)

Today we spent the day with Steve’s parents which was great, we haven’t been there for ages as they’ve been having building work done, which is finally nearly finished! Emma and I popped down to Torquay for a bit of a giggle at the FXFactor (and yes, I told them about the grammatical error on the front page of that site but they didn’t really want to know ;) ) auditions that Em decided to go for – she got through! It was almost exciting ;)

Reader's Digest Veggie Dancing Veggie Dancing Veggie Dancing High Scores

Back at Steve’s parents’ house we just sat/danced around doing various things together, oh, some people went out for a walk too … and then Marg cooked a roast dinner which was lovely as usual. Incidentally, if anyone’s interested, that particular copy of Reader’s Digest is worth reading just for the lovely picture/fabulous article about a home educating family we know! Now back home and doing the usual Sunday-night-get-ready-for-Monday thing …

Veggie Magic

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

I have discovered that Robyn likes Veggie Tales – she’s sat mesmerised in front of it for 20 minutes – which she wouldn’t do for *anything* else!

This is good, as we spent the day at Crealy, so we’re knackered (possibly the other reason Robyn’s sitting still!). Met loads of friends out there – completely by chance, so that made it even better than usual.

The girls are trying to sort out last minute pirate costumes for tomorrow, it’s ‘dress up as a pirate’ day for Children in Need … any suggestions for piratey attire? I’m pretty rubbish at being creative … and probably don’t have any even remotely piratey things to help … give me ideas, please?!
